Erich Mertensmeyer

Dr. Erich Mertensmeyer, D.O., brings more than two decades of experience in ear, nose, and throat care. Board-certified in otolaryngology–facial plastic surgery and otolaryngic allergy, Dr. Mertensmeyer sees patients of all ages — from young children through adults — for the full range of ENT conditions, with additional expertise in chronic sinus disease and allergy. He began his career as a high-volume ENT and facial plastic surgeon, and over the years also built one of the largest allergy practices in southwest Missouri. He now brings that broad, experienced perspective to Kansas City.

As a general otolaryngologist, Dr. Mertensmeyer treats the full spectrum of ear, nose, and throat conditions, including chronic sinusitis, nasal obstruction, hearing and ear concerns, and voice and throat issues, along with environmental and seasonal allergies.

Dr. Mertensmeyer earned his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Missouri-Columbia before attending Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internship at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, Missouri, followed by a residency in otolaryngology and facial plastic surgery through Northeast Regional Medical Center and Freeman Health System in Kirksville and Joplin, Missouri. He went on to complete a fellowship in otolaryngic allergy at Oklahoma State University in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Dr. Mertensmeyer is board-certified by the American Osteopathic Boards of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (AOBOO-HNS) in otolaryngology/facial plastic surgery and in otolaryngic allergy. He is a Fellow of the American Osteopathic College of Otolaryngology and the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy and holds memberships with the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and the American Osteopathic Association. A frequent guest on Springfield and Joplin television news discussing seasonal allergies, Dr. Mertensmeyer is known among referring physicians for his work with complex allergy cases and difficult chronic sinus disease.
